July 15 - Saturday
I bought a pair of white heels today then went to the beauty parlor and my hair at the end, came out looking a mess! The party was anything but exciting. It was simply ok. Nacho, Leo, etc. did not go. The guys who were very nice were Tony Ortigas, Jigger Arrastia (milagro), Arno D, who I think is very nice, Victor, Chris Carreon etc. The usual gang was there. Cosme is still the greatest in my book and how Mercy leads him around on a string is pitiful. He’s so sensitive and Mercy isn’t aware of that. He really, really likes Mercy. I got presents which were very nice. Conchita, Lita and Luli were the ones who fixed everything. I’m very grateful. Tony Ortigas gets handsomer every day. Australia is getting to be an obsession with me. Two people whom I have and still like very are going to make it home - Bill and Cosme.
July 16 - Sunday - I”m 17 years old today!!!!!!!!
I went to Mass at 11 am today. I wanted to receive Communion but couldn’t because I ate breakfast and my dress was sleeveless. (Times have really changed, haven’t they!) I went to the ANC. Conchita, Lita, Luli and Arno were there. Arno is so nice and its sort of exciting to remember he once liked me. Of course I was too dumb to appreciate anything last year. Ate lunch at the ANC Dining Room. Arno and his family were eating there. Arno and I exchanged some side glances from time to time. I went to see “Return to Peyton Place” this afternoon at 2:30. Mercy, Margie and Cosme were there too. There was some magulu because Cosme wanted to hold Mercy’s hand and she didn’t want to. Mercy talked to him over the phone tonight. So did I. Poor guy. How he tries. I told him to keep in there pitching.... what a corny birthday. But Nacho and Leo called to say happy birthday.
July 17 - Monday
I don’t know why but I get so bored these days. I long to get away from it all. I saw a short on the state of California tonight on TV. It showed San Francisco and California’s lovely beaches and the snow-capped mountains, etc. Also Sun Valley etc. If I had one wish for myself right now I’d ask to travel. It’s my one dream. Oh, if only dreams could only come true. (My other dreams of traveling came true but I never did get to California.) Sister Mary Angela gave Ruby, Suzzette (who are great classmates), Margot, Marilena, Alicia and I a talk today. She has revived the HSA after we signed a petition to her to restore it. Boy am I happy! I did simply horrible in my test in Physics. I wonder if I’ll get thru 4th year!! This afternoon I had a very enjoyable chat with Maritoni Ayesa, Maripi Gomez and Noni Ibanez. We talked about from babies to appendicitis and it was a riot. They’re awfully nice people. Also Carmen Singh said she saw the group from Sortilege the other day including Dito Guerrero. Carmina Gutierrez also called up. Nena and I had a half hour chat over the phone. We have the same tastes. She’s great.
July 18 - Tuesday
Had a fairly nice day in school. Nothing special today. Had practice for the play “Career Angel” until 8 pm. I had loads of homework and finally hit the pillow at 11 pm. Maryann Ojeda’s birthday today also June Keithly was in school and some creeps called “The Gladiators” were watching from the canto. Pretty dull day. PS. I wish that package from my grandmother would arrive. Those darned boats! PSS. I wonder how Cosme turned out in his misadventures with Mercy. I haven’t had time to call her up.
July 19 - Wednesday
I finally understand a little more Physics. Thank goodness. I’m doubtful on what I got in our map test in History. That darned map of Greece - ugh. I got a letter, a greeting card and $5 and a picture of my cousin Carlitos today. That little boy is the cutest thing I have ever seen. Such big black eyes. I’d give anything in the world to go to Spain and see him. We had practice again for “Career Angel” We had a nice time today, talking about our costumes etc. Mother Gabriel and Mother Socorro came to see us for awhile. Margot Pimentel brought me home. That Bob Conrad of TV’s “Hawaiian Eye” is a living doll! He sang “I’ve Got A Crush On You” - wow! I’ve got loads of things to do so buy now. I’ve thought a lot about Bill today....
July 20 - Thursday
Margot Pimentel let me read the continuation of her short story this morning. I think it’s pretty good. Her story is real in the sense that it has a happened to me. What I mean is that the circumstances in the story are like mine. I got Nana’s package today and I am very happy its finally here. Now my pimples (I don’t have very many now) will go away. I talked to Mercy this pm and she tells me that all her magulu with Cosme is fixed. I skipped Dramatics class this pm. I was not prepared for the pantomime. I went to the library and did my theme in English which was overdue. I washed my hair today and it looks so nice. Tomorrow I’ll have to eat lunch in school since I have so many things to do. Practicing for the play is fun since Maritoni, Baby, Noni, Rita, Arabella, Lulu, Margot, Maryann etc are in it and very nice people.
July 21 - Friday
What a hectic day! So many things to do in school. Reports, fix the bulletin board, study, research, experiments (which are incomplete) etc., etc. Whew! Mrs. Patag is so good. Honestly, I don’t know where my Tagalog would be without her. This pm I picked Mercy up and we went to the San Marcelino Church for induction into the Louise de Marilac Order (I have no idea what this is or was. I probably transcribed it wrong - couldn’t read my handwriting.) Then we went back to school for rehearsals. Mrs. Martinez was not her usual self. I didn’t even practice my part. Then we came home and Mercy and I spent a delightful evening together. We ate and chatted about, as usual, the good old days - Carlos, Cosme, Honey, Butch, etc., etc., also about Mari Valles and when she was going steady with him. Mercy and I have shared so many teenage experiences together that we have a special kind of friendship. She’s the greatest there is and I hope we’ll never cease to be friends. My skin looks so much better this morning since I put on that medicine last night. Thank goodness. It’s been a nice day in general and I’m glad Mercy came over.
