June 17 - 22, 1961

June 17 - Saturday


I went to the ANC this morning. I sat in the Teenage Den and Sunset Lounge with Honey, Mercy, Cosme, Conchita, Lita and Luli. The rest of the people like Nacho, Carlos, Marina etc. were at the swimming pool. This afternoon Mercy, Margie and I went to La Salle again. Nobody interesting there. Mercy and I went to Tita Mariane’s house for a while and then we went back to La Salle. Billy White said hello, also Angel Villareal. Cosme’s really stuck on Mercy. Margie got mad at Chiqui and didn’t even join us. Cosme, Mercy, Chiqui, Louie Mac and I went to see the “Sports Circle” for a snack during “Porgy and Bess” Cosme had his arm on Mercy’s chair almost touching her shoulder and that Mercy, she’s hopeless - leaning 5 miles forward on her seat! The Monarchs are giving a party on Saturday and I’m not invited. Oh well. I MISS BILL VERY, VERY MUCH!



June 18 - Sunday

I went to Mass at 10AM and then to the ANC, of course! I sat with Conchita and Lita. Those pretty snobbish people like Vicky Baretto, A. Gonzalez, C. Garcia, Cecile Carreon were there for a Despedida luncheon for Rica Gonzalez. Billy White, Quito Campos, etc. were there. Conchita ate lunch with me at Marcos. Then we went to the Gaiety to see “The Hoodlum Priests” - all about Jesuit priests who help the fallen and unfortunate. Nacho comes up to me during the movie very attentive you know, and he came with us later to the ANC. We spent the afternoon in the Sunset Lounge. Lita, Conchita, Luli and I with Cosme, Nacho and Honey. Three people who have had a very strong influence on the emotional part of my life. Conchita is nuts over Honey and Cosme is so nuts over Mercy, he can’t see straight! Mitch Schlachterman is supposed to have gone abroad this afternoon.



June 19 - Monday

No class today since it is Jose Rizal’s birthday. Picked up Lita and I went to the ANC this morning. We walk into the Den and who do we see–none other that Mitch! I guess he didn’t leave yesterday and he’ll be here for a whole month yet. He’s very attractive..... Lita and Conchita ate lunch at home with me and then we went back to the ANC. The usual gang of kids were there. Lita, Luli, Conchita and I spent the afternoon together. Then they left and I played ping-pong with Nacho who has just broken with Leslie! The smartest thing he’s ever done in his life. Leslie put on the dramatic act and was acting very nice but as Nacho says - “she might get an award for it.” Talked with Nena for half an hour over the phone. Said goodby to Tom V who leaves on Wednesday.



June 20 - Tuesday

Same old routine in school. Did simply horrible in my History test but I haven’t failed one yet except Religion. Marina says she’s beginning to like Nacho again and well, here we go again. He took her out on Saturday night so Marina says. Hunky dory for her! Funny, I’ve never been asked on a date in my life! Not even to a simple old movie. Everybody else has! Oh well, someday....Went to the ANC after school. Nena and Tom were there. Nena is a little filled out. Her face is rounder and she’s tanned. She looks so pretty but doesn’t she always?!! Tom took our down our addresses and like Bill, big production and all that but not a single letter. If, and I say if, Bill ever writes, I’ll bet a sweet tooth he’ll write to Nena first. Charlie Armstrong was pretty nice too.



June 21 - Wednesday

It was a pretty good day at school especially since Mrs. Buencamino, our Physics teacher, was absent. We had to answer some questions on mental analysis which was fun. This afternoon, Margot, Ruby, Susan, Corazon, Marina and I practiced singing for the upcoming Faculty Day. I went to the USIS Library to get some cards and then to the ANC. Read a little in the library there then I went back home. Conchita called up and said that she has my invitation to the Monarchs’ party. I really misjudged Jack Aguirre and I’m sorry. I have a feeling its going to be a nice party. Paul Anka was on the Perry Como show tonight. Sang Bill’s favorite songs - Dance On Little Girl,” and “Tonight My Love.” Talked with Mercy a few minutes over the phone. Mommy went to Tita Marina Asparren’s house today and Carlos was in the car with her when she came home. He asked her how old I was and what year I was in and he thought I was 15 Mom says. He’s still one of the handsomest, nicest guys I know.





June 22 - Thursday

The HI-GAYLES - that’s Margot P, Margotin U, Marina, Ruby, Susan, Corazon and I practiced the song we’re going to sing for Faculty Day and if I do say so myself, we’re not so bad after all. Our voices blend very nicely together and the songs are very pretty. Let’s hope we don’t crack up on the day. I went to Conchita’s house to pick up my invitation to Jack Aguirre’s party. I do hope I’ll be able to go. I went to the ANC and I sat with Nena, Lita and her sister. W. Abraham, Bomber Johnson and just before I left, Nacho and Jose Luis. Marina’s getting a revival of her crush on Nacho but to me, he’s just a good friend. There’s only one Bill for me.
