May 14 - Sunday
I wore my new blouse this morning and Mom and Marina said it matched the color of my eyes so maybe I looked pretty good. ( I still see this blouse in my mind’s eye. It was the prettiest olive green. The things that stick in our memories....) Only Carols and Gonzalo at the ANC this morning. Not anything great. Marina ate lunch with me and after lunch we sat in the Sunset Lounge and Bill joined us and gosh I couldn’t breathe for a minute and my pulse was probably racing. We spent the whole afternoon with him. He sang and told jokes and every time he was explaining something he’d look only at me while saying it. Oh those green eyes! Lita joined us and that ikky Agustin. I’d love to clobber him one of these days. Bill began to sing “The Diary” by Neil Sedaka and he even took down the words with his pen and my dictation and when we sang it together we looked at each other in that very distracting way Bill has of looking at you and when it came to the part “...you know how much you mean to me...”....I don’t if he felt the same way but it meant everything to me. Nacho is like the King of Siam ...”from flower to flower..” Bill, Marina, Tom, Jose Luis, etc. went to the Teen Den and just sang and listened to the radio. Danced with Nacho and Jose Luis. Went to the airport to see Luli in. She’s changed and she says we’ve changed.
May 15 - Monday
I was pretty industrious this morning. I fixed my closet and bureau, cleaned my bags, etc. This afternoon I went to the ANC. I first sat with Luli, Lita and Conchita and then I went to the swimming pool and all the other kiddies were there of course not meaning Nena, Marina, Cindy and Nacho. Bill arrived and there went my pulse again! Cindy and I went to the store. Bill was there. Later we all sat together in the Sunset Lounge. Bill, Tom, Nena, Marina, Conchita, Luli, Lita and I. We had a lot of fun cracking jokes, chatting and singing. Every time Bill looks at me there’s a sort of communication......(I go on a bit about Bill here so I will forgo making anyone else gag and will omit some lines.) Leo Kahn was at the ANC today. Ugh, another creep. (Leo turned out to be a prince of a guy and a loyal friend and most of all he keeps in touch with his "bamboo telegraph" and makes me laugh. Who knew?!!)
May 16 - Tuesday
I went shopping this morning with Nena and Tita Carmen Marti, then we went to Tito Paco’s office, to the Yacht Club and to Nena’s house for lunch. Nena, Jose Luis, Nacho, Walter, Tita Carmen and I ate lunch together. Tita Carmen is very, very nice and I like her very much. Later we went to the Acme and I saw a pencil box ideal for school and though I wanted to pay for it Tita Carmen bought it for me. Then Nena and I went to the ANC. Only Cindy and Tom were there and Marina came later. Tom and Cindy left and we saw Bill for a few minutes. He just nodded and left. Cindy introduced me to her father and uncle. Tom V sometimes bugs me. Jose Luis brought me home and later I went to play Bingo. Luli won again and so did Ramon Faustman. Luli gave me some pretty handkerchiefs and Cris Carreon has invited me to a party on May 20.
May 17 - Wednesday
Went to the house of Tita Salem this morning to give her condolences. I feel so sorry for her and they’re very nice people. Tito ??? was such a nice man. Then I ate lunch at home and went to the ANC this afternoon. The usual people were there. Nena came and we sat in the Sunset Lounge. We saw Bill but he didn’t even stop by to say hello but he looked in our direction though. Then Jose Luis brought us to Marina’s house where Nena, Marina, Angela and I cooked. Angela left early and then Nacho, Jose Luis, Carlos and Gonzalo came and we ate supper. I like Nacho so very, very much though I’m only a sister to him. Mom got mad because I came home late even though it wasn’t my fault. I always get blamed for everything.

May 9 - 13, 1961
May 9 - Tuesday
Mass and novena again then after to Metro Drug with Tita Lol. I went to the Yacht Club. I went sailing with Nena and Ana Marie Perez. I ate lunch at Nena’s house and Nacho and Ramon Faustman were there. We listened to the radio and danced and Nacho kissed me on the forehead twice. Something went tingling up and down my spine but Nacho will never know. Went back to the ANC. The usual people were there. Bill was there of course with Marina around him as usual. He really knocks me out and maybe he likes me a little bit as a friend. Maybe he doesn’t like me at all but he’s just awfully nice. Neil Sedaka came and we sat with him. All the kids were asking for his autograph. Guy leaves today for another far port. We said goodby and when we shook hands he squeezed real tight. I like him and he’s a nice guy. Stayed for Bingo with D’Marks kids, Ramon Faustman, Margie, etc. Guy, Cindy, Pete and Angela were there. Guy (This is the second time I mention this guy, Guy.. Guy who?) said goodby again and told me I was “his favorite girl.” He came to watch me play Bingo for a few minutes. Mommy and I had another argument. Nacho was a little mad at me because he says when he was with those 2 American girl friends of his I looked at him badly. I didn’t mean to but when you see the one boy who’s really a part of your heart flirting with other girls, who can smile???!!
May 10 - Wednesday
A dreary day. I went to Mass and then Mom, Tita Lol and I went to buy jeans. Later Tita Lol went to the dentist. I met Cosme’s mother. We went to BPI and there I saw the great big huge safes where they keep money, jewels, important documents etc. Went to the ANC for lunch and saw Cosme. Went to see movie at Gaiety - “Sunrise at Campobello” then went to the ANC. Nena told me Bill had just left. I was so disappointed. Then Marina, Nena and I went swimming. While we were in the pool, Bill, Neil Sedaka, Tom and Pete arrived. Marina instantly made excuses to get dressed. Nena and I stayed in the pool a little longer. Once I looked at the table where the boys were sitting and Bill was looking in our direction. (Whether at me or Nena I don’t know). (A truly stupid remark of mine -- I can’t believe I actually question whether the guys were looking at me or Nena. ) Nena and I got dressed after a lot of laughing and giggles. Said hello to Bill but he just said hello back and left and left a few minutes later. Neil might be able to go to the party on Friday. I do hope it’s a success. What a world. There are times when I think Bill or Nacho like me at least a little but then sometimes I think I bug them or something. Talked to Mercy over the phone. Says that Cosme is mad at her, or so Margie says.
May 11 - Thursday
I went to Mass this morning then Mercy, Margie and I went to the ANC. The Gang was there including some people who are not around often like Cosme, etc. Went swimming with Margie and Nacho. Then I got dressed. Bill came and started teasing again. I ate lunch with Mom and Dad in the Dining Room. Paul Tenny (against my objections) got an autograph from Neil Sedaka for me though I wanted one from Anita Bryant who was also there. Neil is going to the party. Then I went to the Sunset Lounge and said with Neil, Nena and Angela. After we played tennis and Bill played too. As usual teasing about my awful tennis. After tennis we sat at one of the tables at the swimming pool. Nena, Bill, Marina, Jose Luis, Candy, Cindy, Nacho etc. Bill told jokes and we were laughing so hard the tears ran down our faces. I saw Tita Marianne and Tito Werner at the ANC. Nacho says this girl Leslie asked him to take her to the party so for me sorry na lang. He was so affectionate this pm. I will play tennis with him tomorrow if God willing it doesn’t rain. I like him an awful lot, also Bill. I hope with all my heart the party’s a success tomorrow. Ate dinner at D’Marks, saw Maribel’s sister and her boyfriend.
May 12 - Friday
After Mass I went to the ANC and played tennis with Nacho. I went swimming later with Margie and Nacho. I ate lunch at the ANC when Bill came and sat beside me and we just talked. Nena is the nicest girl and friend I have ever known and I’ll miss her terribly when she leaves for Spain. Jose Luis picked me up for the party this evening. It was very nice. The Whirlpools are terrific. JayJay Herrero etc. This one player, Freddy Infante is cute and boy so is his brother. I danced with Nacho, Bill, Jack Aguirre, Agustin B primo de Lita, Tom, Chiqui S and Linggoy. Bill looked simply out of this world in a coat and tie. He danced a divine slow drag with Cindy. Lucky her. Then he left and shook my hand , looked straight at me and squeezed my hand real tight. Nacho was getting affectionate and kissed me on the cheek twice but he has his blue eyes on Leslie O. Cosme was joking around with us. Got home at 1:10 am.
May 13 - Saturday
I got myself a terrific new blouse this morning. Went to the ANC this pm only the pesky creeps were there like those irritating Aboitiz brothers, Chiqui S. Lita’s cousin. Neither Tom nor Bill nor Nacho were there and only Angela and Cindy were there. Nena’s off at Nasucbu. I don’t like to dislike Cosme and Agustin but I think they make it a point to bug me. If they are, believe me they succeeded. Cosme was mentioning all over the place about Nacho giving me an innocent little buzz on the cheek. Maybe he minds or something but he can go fry. Nacho called me up at the ANC first to find out who was there and then he starts talking about Leslie etc. He’ll never know...I haven’t seen Bill or Nacho today and its like something incomplete or missing in my day. Lita lent me her records. I played “Fever” by Elvis and its terrific. I keep seeing Bill singing and its even more terrific sung by him! Luli Lopez arrives tomorrow. We intend to go greet her at the airport.

May 5 - Friday
Mass at San Pancracio this am then Mom and I went shopping. I bought a strapless bra and a new compact. This afternoon I went to the ANC. Marina picked me up. The gang were all there. We had a lot of fun in the pool. Marina, Conchita and I were teased a lot by Bill, Nacho, Gonzalo and Carlos. Today, after swimming I put on my eye make-up back on, a little lipstick and rouge and Bill noticed and said I looked very nice and sweet. This is that one in a million remarks and he’s the first boy who has ever said that. Whether he was joking or not I don’t know. He said he was serious. Marina brought Bill, Gonzalo, Carlos and me home. Bill started to sing Lea my love in the car and though he’s just teasing, it thrills me! If I had one wish this minute I’d hope that Bill is my date for the party on May 12th....
May 6 - Saturday
I went to the ANC after Mass this morning. The gang was there. We practiced for our modeling tomorrow and I did pretty well (not meaning to sound conceited). I ate lunch with Nena and then Nena, Marina, Angela and I went to Del Vals to fix our hair. Moises fixed my hair very well. After we went to the ANC and EVERYBODY was there! When Bill saw me his face broke into his wonderful grin and I nearly melted. He started to tease again and then he said to shake hands to forget all teasing and be friends. And when we shook hands, it was just like electricity. His grip is strong and was it my imagination or did he squeeze just a little bit? He asked me to sit beside him and we just talked. I’m going with Angela to the Neil Sedaka show. Bill is going too. He left at 6 pm then Nacho came and joined me and I get fonder of him every day. He says he’s through with Vita but...? He’s to be my “date” tomorrow afternoon for the dancing at the ANC lawn. This reminds me of something like Cosme last year. I’d better not get carried away by Nacho. I like him a lot. Went to the Sortilege party this pm. Very corny. Ronnie Davies brought us home.
May 7 - Sunday
Went to Mass this am at 7 with Mercy. We later went to Del Val’s for a combing. Moises doesn’t like Marina. Then Mercy and I went to the ANC. We began to get dressed for the fashion show. Big magulu. We were very nervous but the show came out wonderful. Everybody clapped at the end. I got my share of applause. Many people were there and all people I know. Then we (the gang) sat at a table. Bill joined us and I was so happy. We ate lunch there and then Nacho arrived and everyone was there. Vita B was there and a rambulan with Buddy and Arno. We watched cartoons later and Bill sat beside me. There was a band concert later and we danced. Once with Bill, three with Nacho, twice with Jose Luis and once with Tom. I like Bill more every day. He’s an entertaining conversationalist, has a wonderful sense of humor. That wonderful smile and those laughing eyes and everything! He says we might sing “When I Fall In Love” together on Friday but we’ll see. I’d sure like that. He has a very nice voice. (This guy could play me like a violin!) Nacho is too wrapped in Vita. I introduced Bill to my parents.
May 8 - Monday
Mass and novena this morning. This afternoon I went to the ANC. The gang was there and I played tennis with Tom, Nena, Guy and I. Nacho called up and asked if I was going but when I got there we only exchanged a few words. He was a little aloof but then he asked me if I was going to the party for Lita’s cousin. I love Nacho but he’s too wound up with Vita. He was also giving Candy Pratico a lot of attention this evening. I went with Marina to her house before we went to see the Sedaka-Bryant Show. Marina, Nena, Bill and I were in Marina’s car. The show was very nice and after we came home to have a few soft drinks. We played Ricky Nelson songs. Bill started imitating Elvis Presley. Wow! He sings terrifically too. Marina really forces her attention on him. Once during the show I turned around to talk to Bill and he was staring at me so intently. My pulse skipped a beat. I like him an awful lot. I can’t help but think how wonderful it would be if he stayed longer. When he leaves I’ll probably never see him again. He’s made this summer a very enjoyable one.

May 2 - Tuesday
This afternoon I went to the ANC and the gang was there. Nacho told me about his Nasucbu adventures and Charlie A has got the shortest crew cut ever! At 5 pm we had a meeting with Mr. Duchstein at the party room about the Fashion Show. We went to the pool and there he showed us where we would walk and everything. Later Bill suggested we organize the party again and tomorrow at 10 am we will have a meeting to organize everything. The people who were at the ANC today were, Nena, Nacho, Jose Luis, Arno, Tom, Lita, Conchita, Marina, Cindy, Bill, Angela, Margie, Walter, Pete, Charlie, etc. The boys are going to participate in the fashion show but of course only as “decoration.” I do hope we can get the party underway and I wish by some miracle Charlie doesn’t leave for the States until after the party. He and Bill are the most and so is Nacho. Went to Bingo and D’Marks this evening.
May 3 - Wednesday
I went to the ANC this morning with Margie. Vita B was there. We had the meeting in the Teen Den on the subject of the party. Besides the usual people, Luis Pertierra was there. He has very nice eyes. Vita is a little possessive of Nacho but otherwise a nice girl. If Nacho likes her, well...Ate lunch at home then went back to the ANC. Cindy, Marina and Nena were already there. Cindy knows I have a crush on Bill and heaven knows how?! (Could I have been this clueless? How about the “how” being my own big mouth.) I’m not that obvious, or am I?! The whole gang was there in the afternoon and Pete and Tom joined us. Bill came later and as usual I got a little confused with Cindy and Nena’s mischievous smiles...
May 4 - Thursday
I’ve spent the whole day at the ANC today. I got there this morning and Nacho was there and we sat in the Sunset Lounge and talked. Then Marina, Conchita, and Lita joined us. I played tennis this afternoon and I’m improving. Nacho, Marina and I ate lunch together then we went to a movie - Gaiety - “The Last Rebel” Carlos Garcia, Linggoy, and Juaco were there. Went back to the ANC - the gang was there and Cindy showed us her new shoes that she’s going to wear on Saturday for this ball she’s going to. Bill was kidding around with me in the pool and then later he started teasing and everything had a wonderful time. Nacho was very attentive to me today and he told me he might drop Vita but I know better. At least he likes me and I like him and how I wish Vita would leave the scene or something. Mercy was there too and Carlos and Gonzalo Lanuza.

May 3 - Wednesday
I went to the ANC this morning with Margie. Vita B was there. We had the meeting in the Teen Den on the subject of the party. Besides the usual people, Luis Pertierra was there. He has very nice eyes. Vita is a little possessive of Nacho but otherwise a nice girl. If Nacho likes her, well...Ate lunch at home then went back to the ANC. Cindy, Marina and Nena were already there. Cindy knows I have a crush on Bill and heaven knows how?! (Could I have been this clueless? How about the “how” being my own big mouth.) I’m not that obvious, or am I?! The whole gang was there in the afternoon and Pete and Tom joined us. Bill came later and as usual I got a little confused with Cindy and Nena’s mischievous smiles...
May 4 - Thursday
I’ve spent the whole day at the ANC today. I got there this morning and Nacho was there and we sat in the Sunset Lounge and talked. Then Marina, Conchita, and Lita joined us. I played tennis this afternoon and I’m improving. Nacho, Marina and I ate lunch together then we went to a movie - Gaiety - “The Last Rebel” Carlos Garcia, Linggoy, and Juaco were there. Went back to the ANC - the gang was there and Cindy showed us her new shoes that she’s going to wear on Saturday for this ball she’s going to. Bill was kidding around with me in the pool and then later he started teasing and everything had a wonderful time. Nacho was very attentive to me today and he told me he might drop Vita but I know better. At least he likes me and I like him and how I wish Vita would leave the scene or something. Mercy was there too and Carlos and Gonzalo Lanuza.

April 28 - May 1, 1961
April 28 - Friday
I had to stay home this morning but I went to the ANC this afternoon. I sat with Cindy and soon Bill joined us and a little later, Pete, Arabella, Tom and later Marina. I had a very nice time and we laughed a lot at Bill and Pete’s corny but very funny jokes and antics. Bill loves to sing along to Elvis’s songs and his voice is pretty good. Mercy goes to Baguio tomorrow. I got a letter from Maribel Franco today. My radio works a little better today. Let’s hope it improves.
April 29 - Saturday
Played tennis this am and then I spent the whole afternoon with Cindy. Charlie A was also with us and he is the nicest! (Did I not have any other word besides NICE in my vocabulary?!) He’s also taking up pre-med and you know the passion I have for doctors or doctors-to-be. It is also hard to find a combination like him. Very handsome, a nice person with good humor, good sport AND a doctor! I played ping-pong with him this pm. He beat me 2 times and I beat him once. Bill played tennis this pm. Charlie leaves for the States (California) in May 6th and there goes another handsome dream. Dad and Mom gave me a going over about going with people “like Cindy” and all those guys. This life, I tell you. I miss Nacho today!
April 30 - Sunday
Mass at 10 am then to the ANC. Only Conchita, Lita and Cindy were there this morning. I ate lunch there and Mom and Dad went home and I stayed. Marina came then Tom and Bill. Bill was wearing a blue shirt which Daddy has one just like it. We sat in the Sunset Lounge and just talked. He (Bill) says Cindy plays good tennis. Well, much better than me anyway. I went to see a Spanish play with Mom this evening. I sat with Conchita and Kenneth Brimo was there. Gerry Valdez was in the play, so was Lita Abraham, etc. It was titled “Ten Cuidado Con Las Personas Formales.” Very funny.
May 1 - Monday
Another battle with Mom about going out this morning so I finally stayed home this am. I went to the ANC this pm and Angela, Tom and Pete were there. I sat with them and I was very happy to see Charlie is back. Said hello to me. When he left he rumpled my hair and said goodbye. Tom did the same when he, Cindy, Angela and Pete left. (What was I, a puppy?) I watched Bill play tennis. He has a very good backhand too. After he played tennis I joined Conchita and Lita who were all excited because the two thrills of their lives were there. We sat at the swimming pool. When Bill left I smiled at him and he gave me a wink. I saw him in barong Tagalog later. I went to see “Fever In the Blood” with Mom. It starred Efrem Zimbalist, etc. Bill was right, it was a very good movie.

April 24 - 27, 1961
April 24 - Monday
What a nice day. First, I played a little tennis at the ANC then Jose Luis and Nacho came and Lita and Conchita and chatted for a while and then Cosme and Honey came, also Charlie A. When the rest of the gang left Cosme stayed behind and we ate lunch together and he was his usual self. Then he left and I joined Cindy Taylor and we talked. Another very interesting person then Tom and Charlie joined us. Marina came with new Argentinian friends - two handsome boys, 17 and 19. Cosme came for a minute then left. The Martis came and Conchita and Lita. ........
April 25 - Tuesday
I stayed home this am and sewed the hem of one of my dresses. This pm I went to the ANC and the usual people were there. I sat at an umbrella table with Angela and Jose Luis, Nacho, Jose F and this Asam fellow. Suddenly I looked up and there was Bill over at the counter with Tom. We went swimming and I didn’t want to wet my hair and Bill did just that. Bill left at 7 pm. I played Marco Polo with Lita and Conchita and Carlos and Gonzalo (the 2 Argentinian guys), Nacho, Jose F and Walter A. Lita likes Carlos and I wonder if he likes her. Jose Luis brought me home and I was squeezed in the back seat with Nacho and tom V.
April 26 - Wednesday
I finished sewing the hem of my skirt this am and then I went to the ANC this afternoon. Arno and I had a talk about the party. Then I played tennis, rather I had my tennis lessons. Bill was there and he watched me for a while which caused me to miss some balls quite obviously. Then I put on my bathing suit to go swimming. The usual people were there including Luis Pertierra, Jose Luis Garcia and Marina who came to the ANC in the sailboat. Mercy came to the ANC too. Charlie A was there too so when you put him, Bill, and us in one place at the same time, it’s a little dazzling but I still go for Bill. Cindy Taylor was a little blue because this guy she met - Ken, is leaving tomorrow and I think they’ve fallen for each other. Such is life. Magna Llamas says Cosme was looking for me. When Cindy told me how said it is to fall for a guy and then he leaves here and you’ll probably never see him again like her Ken, I was thinking of Bill - he’s leaving too in June. At least Ken likes Cindy. Bill doesn’t know I’m alive. Mercy ate dinner with us and went home at 10 PM. I wonder what Cosme wanted?
April 27 - Thursday
This afternoon I went sailing with Nacho, Georgia and Jose Faustman. All of us except Nacho fell in the water and my radio besides everything else that was in my bag got spoiled and soaked. But, we had a grand time as usual. Nacho is the best and there are times when I wish he were more than just a friend. We went to the ANC and the usual people were there including Nena, bill and Charlie Armstrong. I sat with Charlie, Bill and Cindy and Marina joined us.
