July 22 - 27, 1961

July 22 - Saturday


I picked up Mercy this am and she, Mommy and I went shopping. Bought the cutest beige bag to go with my new skirt and I hope to use it tomorrow. Then went to the ANC in the afternoon. I played ping-pong with Yan Schlachterman and we played 3 games. I won once. He is such a nice boy. If only his brother were here. Cosme came later. Then Lita, Luli, Conchita, Mercy, Cos and I sat in the Sunset Lounge and just chatted. I spent the evening in Mercy’s house. Honey was there for a while and then he left with Ditoy Atayde. He looked out of this world in a white ban-lon sweater and dark blue pants. Mercy chatted half the night with Jeannie Asad and Joe Asad. Mercy gave me a picture of Carlos Garcia in which he looks simply great. Those terrific brown eyes of his! And that wonderful smile. Speaking of eyes and smiles - Bill’s eyes and smile were million dollar too. Dad and Mom picked me up at 12:30 AM.



July 23 - Sunday

The day started out quite disgustingly, when at first my new skirt didn’t fit but then dear Mommy fixed it up and I got to the ANC in one piece. Arno is so very nice and I got this nice feeling now and then to think he once liked me more than a friend. Conchita, Luli, Lita had it all planned to the Polo Club this afternoon. I was a bit hurt that I wasn’t asked to go with them but I guess they had their reasons. I was a little down in the dumps. We ate Chinese food for lunch which was delicious and we went to the NOMADS club to see the soccer game and almost all the Spanish community were there. I met the Sans, the Oglues, the Martis, the Rodriguez-Aruza brothers, Maribel Aboitiz, etc. and also the whole Duarte clan and some other cute people. But the one I was most excited happy and delighted to see was Carlos Garcia!!!!!He came up and said hello to me 2 times and smiled that simply adorable way - I nearly melted. I had sort of a premonition that I’d see him today and I did. I was so happy again. I had a wonderful time and they said I looked very changed in my tight skirt.



July 24 - Monday

Usual day at school. I still haven’t sold my lottery tickets and unless some money grows on trees I don’t know how I’ll pay for them. Margotin gave me an invitation to Ike Borja’s party next Saturday. I don’t know if I’ll be able to go. My father is very choosy about the parties I go to and the people he doesn’t know. Again, bahala na. I’m filling the High School bulletin board with Sandra Gonzalez and it ought to look pretty good when we’re finished. I don’t understand head nor tail about anything in Physics. Like Geometry last year, it gets more hopeless every day and Miss Buencamino goes so fast. I went to the ANC this pm with Daddy. Arno was there and I was glad to see him. He had something to tell me but forgot. I still can’t get Carlos Garcia’s picture out of my mind and that smile he gave me yesterday. Marina’s invited Cosme to the CEG program tomorrow.



July 25 - Tuesday

Miss Juco is one of the best teachers I have ever had and despite her handicap, she is still the greatest woman and teacher. This pm we had a program at the auditorium for the Anniversary of the College Editors Guild (CEG). I spent my time with Maritoni Ayesa, Noni Ibanez, Rita Jimenez, etc. also Maripi Gomez and Maribel Carceller. The SPC Glee Club sang and they are truly marvelous. They are all excited about Friday when the Harvard Glee Club sings along with them. I can’t wait to see those American boys myself! This evening I went to Bingo with Tita Pacita, Tita Meling, Mommy and Freddy Hernandez. He is very nice and very attractive. But of course, probably has 3 girlfriends. Lita and Luli were there. They said they saw Nena there (at the Polo Club?) Margarita and Lourdes de Leon got lambasted by Miss Ocampo and Miss Rulan respectively.



July 26 - Wednesday

I ate lunch at school today and had a hilarious time with Margot Pimentel, Alicia Gabriel, and Marilena Maralit. Then we asked Mother for the car and she lent us the station wagon and the 4 of us went to the ABS Studios to give Pepe Pimentel the gift we got as a token of our appreciation for coming to our Initiation Day. We went backstage. We saw how they filmed or I mean televised Student Canteen. It was all pretty exciting though we got soaked getting back into the car since it was raining cats and dogs. We should have brought the gifts on Friday since Pat Boone will be there! I haven’t done an inch of my homework today, so tomorrow ugh, ugh, ugh..I heard the SPCM Glee Club practicing this pm and they are very good, in fact, marvelous. Talked with Mercy over the phone tonight and from what she tells me, Cosme is really, really in love with her. (Boy, we were pretty free with the words “in love.”) I saw and talked to Maricar Beliso this evening.



July 27 - Thursday

Its been a nice school day. No tests and my quiz in Religion was a little better than yesterday. I seemed to have laughed the whole day today. We’ve had hilarious times in the classroom. I saw Pat Boone on TV this noon on “Student Canteen”. He is very nice and sang “Bernadine.” I hope to see his show. I got picked up very late again today. We had pantomimes in Dramatics class today. It was very enjoyable. All Harvard tickets are sold out for tomorrow. Many people are looking for tickets but there are absolutely none. Marina and I asked permission from Sister to come in dresses, not uniforms. Also Daddy won’t let me go to Ike Borja’s party because we have a party engagement also on Saturday as it is the Charters’ anniversary. I still have hopes but they are getting fainter by the minute. I called Nena up this evening and Nacho answered. He asked me to go to the Borja’s party.
