Sister didn’t get mad at me this morning though I thought she would. Margotin was very nice this morning. These are one of her better days. Nena called me this evening its funny how I was thinking she would this morning. I’ll bring the books I have of hers to the ANC tomorrow afternoon. Mercy is a little, well let say catty these days. I guess she’s all confused. I don’t know what’s wrong with Mom today. She keeps giving me some sort of look. What have I done now? Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. One name keeps popping up - Nacho. “Dreeaammmm....
Feb 14 - Tuesday - Happy Valentine’s Day!
As I said..dreeeaaammm....The only Valentines I got today were from Marina and Cora Alvina. Today Sister let us (the class) use the tape recorder. We had a sort of radio program and I was the emcee. Everybody said my voice sounded very well and I did ok. I wish I had a tape recorder of my own. Kenneth hasn’t called Mercy since last Friday. I guess its because she snubbed him at the Assumption Fair last Sunday? Today I went to the ANC after I was to give Nena her books. Lita, Conchita, Maribel, etc. were there. Nena arrived later and I went home with her.
Feb 15 - Wednesday
Today has been a nice day in school. Mrs. Buencamino gave me polboron and bibinka during Recess and Sr. Mary Angela let me use the tape recorder. Margot Pimentel composed a song “Sometime” which is pretty good. We all sang after classes. Margotin is so nice these days. Went to TB practice this evening. Rosarito C has a crush on Honey and Mercy tells me Maricris Taberna loves Honey a lot. Kenneth is mad at Mercy and though Mercy doesn’t say anything she wishes he would call her up again. The maids said a certain M. Cacho called for me this evening. I wonder who??I wonder if the day will ever come when some nice cute guy likes me and it so happens I’ll like him. Tita Totoy and Tita Betty are just riotous.

Feb. 8 - 12, 1961
Feb. 8 - Wednesday
Dreary day in school. This afternoon I asked permission from Sister Eustasia to go shopping and be excused from classes and she said yes. Of course, I changed my story a little but the answer is what counts. Went to Tita Mariane’s house to get my costume for Marina’s party. A Swiss costume. Hope it looks good on me. Lita is not going to Marina’s party and if this keeps up Marina and I will be dancing with each other. Went to Anti-TB practice today. Tita Totoy and Tita Betty are just the absolute end. I never laughed so hard in my whole life. I hope this weekend will be nice. Oh please!! This can’t happen to me again!! Our maids almost killed each other today. What a fight they had. Went shopping this pm.
Feb 9 - Thursday
I’m 5 themes, 5 book reports, one workbook, 3 notebooks (and some other things I haven’t noticed yet) and 4 experiments late in school work and I expect to pass??!! Only a miracle will save me now. Its all my fault for being so lazy! Marina is so excited about her party and about half the people she invited won’t go. I only hope for her sake, mine and everybody else’s, that it isn’t a big flop. I tried on my costume this evening and its so pretty. I called Nena this evening and we were talking for a while and then Nacho talked to me about sailing Saturday and the party tomorrow. I hope this ends up to be a nice weekend in more ways than one!
Feb 10 - Friday
All day long I was excited about the party of Marina’s. Margie, Mercy and I dressed up home and Conchita picked us up to go there. Maribel looked simply beautiful as an American Indian and Marina was exotic in an Arabian costume. When Nacho came my heart did 3 flip-flops. He was just wonderful. I danced every boogie number with him but not a single slow drag. I guess it was because I was in flats and I’m too short. (I hope that’s it) When he talks to me and looks at me with those blue eyes....He danced sd with Marina and boy I went through Purgatory again. The Falcons came and were as pesky as usual. Victor, Danny were nice. Cosme was being catty again and Carlos Garcia is the handsomest boy I know. Wow, those eyes, that dimple and that voice...he had a captain’s hat on!
Feb 11 - Saturday
I went to the ANC this morning. Nacho came too. He said he stayed at Marina’s house till 1 AM. I couldn’t care less if he stayed all night (hah, who am I kidding) Lita and Conchita came later and Nacho went sailing. We couldn’t go because the boat wasn’t available. Nacho went with a friend. Marina came later and was she surprised to find Nacho’s trunks in Lita’s bag. Ate lunch at D’Marks with Daddy. Lita picked me up to go to the Beeps party. It was ok but Nacho didn’t go. I didn’t dance except 2 times. Juaco was a little high and Carlos Garcia is just the living end. And of course he and everybody else for that matter wouldn’t notice me but that’s the story of my life. Maripaz Godinez gave me an invitation to her party next Saturday and Jun Ripoll danced with Margie (She flipped!)

I went to the Luisita’s meeting this am with Mercy then went to Mass at 9 am at San Pancracio. Mercy went home. Went to the ANC for a little while, later went to Karen’s new home for lunch. Wonderful house and with a swimming pool. This afternoon Dad brought me to the Assumption Fair because Lita could only pick me up way to early. Everybody was there. When we saw Mari Valles Mercy flew in the opposite direction and I was astounded. Mari looked so handsome today and I’ll still say he has a wonderful smile. Mercy and he should make a comeback (or maybe not). Kenneth was also there. Nacho didn’t go but when I called for Nena this evening he answered and said he won the sailing race against the “110's” and the Dragons. Hurrah for him. PS. I remember Carlos Garcia wore a black shirt with two red stripes and he looked out of this world.

Feb 3 - Friday
I rang the bell exactly on time and my classmates were simply shocked to find me in school so early. We had Benediction and Holy Hours. This evening Mercy, Marilen Lanusa, Tessie Bernia, Monse and I went to the ABS TV Studios for “Jam Session” The Strads do very good and Bert Silos is very attractive. So is Salvador. I didn’t know anybody there except Leo Kahn. Big deal! Bobby Ng is very nice. Mom and Pop, etc. saw me on TV. Leonard Von Guise drove us down D’Marks and then Tessie’s cousin or something Frankie Rodriguez drove us home. He is also very nice.

Mass this am in school. My classmates and everybody else saw me on TV last night (ugh) including Tita Carmen Marti. Kenneth wasn’t at the ANC this am and that’s why Mercy went. Marina had a real sexy sweater on this morning hoping Nacho would be there. He went sailing instead with 2 girls and a boy. Nena, Lita, Mercy, Conchita, Maribel and I went to see “GI Blues” again today. That Elvis is a real knockout! When he comes here - WOW!! Kenneth was in the movies. He sat beside Mercy. He’s very handsome. At the ANC later Nacho, Jose Luis, Tim Wells and a girl came to pick Nena up.

What a nice day. Went to Mass and Communion today at 10 AM Then of course to the ANC. Conchita, Maribel, Marina were there. Marina was mad at me. Ate lunch at Conchita’s home and then we went to the movies with Lita, Marisol, Conchita, Mercy, Margie, Maribel to see “The Magnificent Seven” Wonderful picture. Kenneth sat beside Mercy and Marina sat beside Nacho. Tony Ortigas was also there. Kenneth is really very nice. Dita Veloso sat beside me and she says I’m invited to the Beep Beeps party and that she gave my invitation to Margotin and Magu doesn’t tell me a thing! We went to the ANC after the movies. We were all laughing in the Sunset Lounge. Later Mercy and Margie left and Nacho and came. Once Marina called for me and Mercy answered, gave the phone to Nacho and he handed it right away to me. He said out loud he likes me, not Marina, best .....??!! He danced boogie with me 2 times and one slow and boogie with Lita. He’s invited us to sailing Saturday. I hope I can go. He’s the most and I’m glad he doesn’t fight with me like he does with Marina.....

Marina is up on some sort of cloud these days. This am Sister Mary Angela let me sing something on her tape recorder. I sang “When I Fall In Love.” It came out better than I thought and my voice didn’t sound so bad. Dita Veloso called me this pm asking me about their party on Saturday. She’s very nice. She’s coming over tomorrow to do book reports, also with Mercy who as usual talks about Kenneth these days. Some people are just plain lucky because Kenneth is a walking dream. Cosme is going to Marina’s party. Why am I so happy about this?!!.

I’m so excited about this weekend and it might be as nice as I think it will be. I only hope, hope, hope...Anyway “too much expectation ends in frustration.” Magoo finally gave me the invitation and she was so nice about it. Marina is really crazy for Nacho. I don’t blame her either. Mercy called this evening and she says Kenneth won’t go to Marina’s party. Too bad, it would’ve been so nice if he goes. Nena came over this evening and I helped her with her book reports. She lent me 4 Emilie Loring books. She’s very nice. She left at 7 pm. I’m not doing so good in History, ay naku. I just can’t concentrate but if there’s a will there’s a way.
Note: February 7, 1960 (last year) was when we walked over to Victor’s house from the Falcons’ game against Monarchs and Carlos Garcia walked all the way with me and he was so nice and I guess since he’s always been of the top, if not the top of my list!!

Jan. 30 - Monday
I’m to have a part in the HS play but don’t know what. Marina is making plans for her party on Feb. 10. Mercy has broken with Mari. After one year of happiness. Today, a year ago, she fell for him in Angel’s house. Poor Mercy is all shook up and she’s just miserable. Oh well, that’s life. Margie, Mercy tells me, asked her to break. (Margie again?!). Poor Mercy, I have a small idea of how she feels (April 20, 1960!)

Don’t know why but Nacho has been on my mind a lot. I wonder what he’s reaction is going to be when he finds out that Mercy broke with Mari. I feel excited every time I think of Nacho on Marina’s coming party (???) And sometimes I feel I like him more than I think I do. Nothing special happened today. Margotin still hasn’t told me anything about the coming Beep-Beeps party although Mercy and Margie already have their invitations. I still don’t think I’m invited although I hope I am. Margotin has given me pictures of my one and only Fabian in exchange of pictures of Kookie Byrnes, Troy Donahue and Roger Smith.

Kenneth called Mercy again for the 2nd time. This guy has fallen for the Muniosguren charm of course Mercy is now a little mixed up. She doesn’t even know who she hates or likes any more. We went to practice this evening for “Pichi” etc. There’s this boy named Pedrito whom I think is very nice. Mercy and Lita came too. Today I dislike myself again. I realize I’m one of the most unattractive girls in the city and I don’t blame anyone but myself for not liking me (ugh, ugh, ugh) There won’t be a High School play anymore. Ay naku, que vida!

I finally got to ring the bell for school since the seniors leave tomorrow for Baguio. Angela, Elnora, Eloisa, Annabelle, Rosana, etc. are the most! Tomorrow I’ll have to get up early to ring that bell on time. Today was a nice day. I asked Annabelle to get an identification bracelet for me. This evening I went to Mercy’s house to interview Honey. He looked so handsome and he was so nice this evening. One of the most! Kenneth called Mercy again and he’s invited her to the movies and to the Assumption Valentines Fair. He, Nacho and everybody seems to be going to the ANC on Saturday. Its going to be a pretty interesting day.

January 27 - 29,1961
Jan. 27 - Friday
My first party in 1961 and it wasn’t very bad at all. Mercy, Margie and I arrived there early. There were only a few girls there and no boys and then POW everyone started arriving. It was the kookiest and the dippiest. Janet Asad is so charming. Paqui and Tony Ortigas are the handsomest and the greatest. Ramon Arnaise says I dance very well and Kenneth Brimo is a creep! The boys were simply dippy. There was Paqui, Tony, Bert, Salvador, June R. Ramon and some other real cool people whom I didn’t know. I danced with Tony, Paqui, Ramon, Kenneth and 2 other guys whose names I didn’t know. Vicky Perez is so nice but the boys there were real gone. It was wonderful.

I forgot to mention yesterday that Kenneth seemed to be very interested in Mercy - danced with her four or five times and me only 2 times, not that I cared really. This am Mercy and I went to the ANC. I wore my new red sweater and everybody liked it. A guy named Bobby whom we met last night was there and we sat at his table because he invited us. Marina was in a terrible mood this morning. Heaven knows why although I have an idea - 1st, she wasn’t invited to the party and 2nd, Nacho didn’t invite her to Seaman’s Cove. I went to see “Hamlet” at the A de M this pm with Mercy. Rufo Gonzalez acts very, very well.

Mercy went to Mass with us and I received Communion. We went to the ANC. Mercy hoped Kenneth would be there but he didn’t show up. Mercy has her share of problems with Mari and Chiqui Ramirez poking his head into things. Lita’s grandmother died today. Ate lunch at Marco’s and then Mercy went home. Conchita and I spent the afternoon with nothing to do. Just talked. Arno looked very nice today although I saw him only for a few minutes. I went to the Glee Club Concert this evening with Mom. It was beautiful! There were many more encores.

Jan. 23 - Monday
I passed all my exams so far except, of course, History, 72%. Marife Gonzalez saw me in Mass yesterday. She also saw Honey. Nacho and Jose Luis invited Marina to the movies yesterday and she is way up in Cloud 9. She’s so mixed up she doesn’t even know whom she likes but Nacho, Jose Luis or Tom Wells, anyway, she’s a good kid. I still would like to know what’s wrong with Nacho. I don’t even know if I like him anymore. My mind is clouded up over the nicest guy yet, that Fabian. Angela V says he’s sick but still hopes she can invite him over to her house for dinner before he leaves. I hope, hope, hope. I’ve just got to meet him.

Fabian leaves tomorrow and I still haven’t met him and I wanted so much to. It seems everybody did except me. Oh well. I’ll meet him someday. Every time I think of him, my heart simply glows. There’s still a chance in a million that I’ll meet him. Mercy says she went to a TV station yesterday and met Bert Silos and Salvador Vaca. Bert caught Mercy looking at him many times. Jan. 25 - Wednesday
I’m now so tired that if I didn’t have any school tomorrow I’d sleep till noon. Our Junior-Senior Excursion was so very much fun. I spent the whole time with Marina, Angela, Annabelle, Elnora, Magoo, etc. I also ate a lot of buko. I haven’t gone to see Fabian and I’m so disappointed but I hope he gets well soon. I went to practice "Pichi" this evening. I’m bushed. Mercy is in more dances than I, about 2 or 3. I’m only in one and her costumes are so nice. Oh well, that’s the story of my life. We went to visit the American Battle Monument. It was so emotional. I also saw Kennedy’s Inauguration on TV. I’m so proud to me an American!

I’ve thought a lot about Nacho and Cosme today. Heaven knows why. It would be so nice if someone as nice as they would like me not that they wouldn’t...I’m getting romantic these days...
Mrs. Buencamino was absent today because her father died. Tomorrow I’m supposed to be invited to V. Perez’s party????
I passed all my exams so far except, of course, History, 72%. Marife Gonzalez saw me in Mass yesterday. She also saw Honey. Nacho and Jose Luis invited Marina to the movies yesterday and she is way up in Cloud 9. She’s so mixed up she doesn’t even know whom she likes but Nacho, Jose Luis or Tom Wells, anyway, she’s a good kid. I still would like to know what’s wrong with Nacho. I don’t even know if I like him anymore. My mind is clouded up over the nicest guy yet, that Fabian. Angela V says he’s sick but still hopes she can invite him over to her house for dinner before he leaves. I hope, hope, hope. I’ve just got to meet him.
Jan. 24 - Tuesday
Fabian leaves tomorrow and I still haven’t met him and I wanted so much to. It seems everybody did except me. Oh well. I’ll meet him someday. Every time I think of him, my heart simply glows. There’s still a chance in a million that I’ll meet him. Mercy says she went to a TV station yesterday and met Bert Silos and Salvador Vaca. Bert caught Mercy looking at him many times. January 18 - 22, 1961
Jan 18 - Wednesday
Exams in English and Lit, Religion were not so bad but History horrible! Angela Vincenzi saw Fabian last night. Lucky her and he wrote a little autograph for me as well as the Fabulous Four. I don’t know why but I want to meet Fabian so much. I didn’t care about the other singers who came here but Fabian is so special. Of course, these are just my wild imaginations again but again...I wish! I found that Inger left me a lovely picture of hers in my wallet. She’s just very very...Talked with Mercy over the phone this evening. This whole world is full of such wonderful people. Talked with Fr. Reuter today. He blessed my St. Anthony medal. I love everybody!

It was simply freezing this morning! In fact these past few days have been COLD. Everybody goes around in sweaters. The temperature this morning was least 58 degrees something. I got my report card today its much better than I expected phew! At least I passed in geometry. I still hope to see Fabian. I hope, hope, hope. Gosh wouldn’t it be simply wonderful! I would like to talk to him not just see him, but, oh well, I’ll keep hoping. I went to eat dinner at D’Mark’s this evening with Mom and Dad. They were playing"Are You Lonesome Tonight" by Elvis Presley on the radio. Simply dreamy.
Jan. 20 - Friday
Today we gave our J-S Prom invitations to the Seniors. The invitations were all very nice and original. I’m so very mad at myself. Angela told me today that they’re going to the Fabian Show tomorrow night and that if I had told her she would’ve gotten a ticket for me so that I could go with them because they’re going to see Fabian after the show. Some people have all the luck! I just pray and have the slim hope that some ticket will pop out for me. I’ve just got to meet Fabian. Went to practice at Tita Maitos house this evening. Had a wonderful time practicing "Pichi" with Mikki and Rosie.

"More things are brought by prayer than this world dreams of." - the most true quotation in the world. I prayed so hard last night that Angela might find a ticket for me for the Fabian Show and I GOT IT!! Fabian is simply wonderful! He’s so handsome and so simpatico. I didn’t meet him personally, this is still a wish, but Im praying again although the chances are slimmer this time but I hope. My heart was beating so fast when he was singing. I wonder if its possible to like a boy whom you’ve never met personally. Anyway, Angela says he’s very nice and how I want to meet him. Angela is tops. If it weren’t for her....oh Tiger (Fabian), you’re so wonderful1

I went to Mass at San Pancracio’s this morning. Mercy and family were there. Mercy and I went to the ANC after Mass. There were many people there including Nacho. Marina says she didn’t like the Fabian show yesterday. She wasted her money. Oh well some people just don’t appreciate the nice things in life and Fabian is the nicest there is. Nobody seems to like Fabian much but they haven’t even seen his show. Mercy and I ate lunch at the ANC and then we came back home. Mercy says she’s broken with Mari. Says he’s grown different and FAT! Ugh. She also says that Cosme is very nice and when Cosme turns on his charm POW! I wonder what’s wrong with Nacho? He’s strange and different and he can’t look me straight in the face?? (Everybody is changing.)Angela V called tonight. She says Fabian stays until Wednesday and not to give up hope. Don’t worry I won’t.
